Fry, Freezing and the Future
Well, i'm sure you can all remember that fateful night of December 31st 1999 when life for Fry changes forever and in a dreadful accident Fry falls into the cryogenic tube. But is it all as accidental as it first seems? And how does Fry end up without the Delta brain wave that seems so crucial to the Nibblonians? Click the images for a larger and clearer version of the image.
Space Pilot 3000
Well, our first search for evidence can begin on that very night. It all appears to be caused by the party-wizzer pushing Fry off balance and knocking fry over. Some people believe that the wizzer did not have enough momentum to push Fry off balance, so lets look more closely at the rest of that night.
Just before Fry falls over, we see the camera flick to just below the chair. As we can see, there is a shadow of a Nibblonian there. This was picked up and discussed many times as to whether Nibbler froze Fry. The DVDs can give us an insight the significance of this shadow too:
"What we tried to do was we tried to lay in alot of little secrets in this episode [Space Pilot 3000] that would pay off later. Should we tell some of them, or should we just..."
David X. Cohen "Maybe we should just point them out and let people figure them out for themselves. There's a cool one coming up in just a few minutes"
Matt Groening Just after that was said, they shout "Secret" as we see the Nibblonian shadow.

Anthology Of Interest I
In this episode, we see what would happen if Fry doesn't get frozen on the professor's "What If" machine. Now we can assume that the "What If" machine has only removed the element that froze Fry and then from that point on calculated what would happen.
If you look under the chair in this sequence, there is no Nibblonian shadow, so we can now assume that Nibbler or a Nibblonian caused Fry to be frozen. Since there is no Nibbler, Fry falls short of the Cryogenic Tube.
The Day The Earth Stood Stupid
The Nibblonians are revealed to be a super-intelligent race that need Fry to save the universe from flying Brains. We are told that he lacks the Delta brain wave that makes animals susceptible to the Brain's mental attack.
Roswell That Ends Well
Now to explore the lack of Fry's Delta brain wave. This is what causes him to be immune to the Brain's attack. The Planet Express crew have traveled back in time to 1967, the same time period as Fry's Grandfather (Enos) and Grandmother (Mildred) are alive. Fry manages to kill Enos in a nuclear explosion, and Mildred becomes attracted to Fry instead of Enos. Fry ends up sleeping with Mildred, and becomes his own grandfather. This caused him to be born with a lack of the Delta brain wave.
Jurassic Bark
Now we were all happy with the theorey that Nibbler froze Fry, but Jurassic Bark changes all of what we have currently seen. There now appears to be another shadow under the chair, but this one appears to be Fry. This confused everyone. Did Fry travel back in time? How did he and why did he?
The Why of Fry
Fry infiltrates the Info-sphere, a giant memory bank. His mission is to destroy it to prevent the Brains from learning everything in the universe, and then to prevent them from destroying the universe.
Trapped inside after his Scooty-Puff Jr. breaks, he starts off his Quantum interface bomb's timer, for good to win over evil. In his last 60 seconds, he asks to Info-sphere what happened on December 31st 1999. We see that Nibbler froze Fry, confirming the first theorey.
After being transported to another universe by the bomb, the Info-sphere discovers a way for Fry to go back intime and to prevent himself from being frozen. Fry will have his old life back and the Brains will destroy the universe, by Fry's logic everybody wins!
In the past Fry confronts Nibbler, who explains how they needed to freeze Fry as he would not live long enough to save the world in the year 3003. When asked if there is nothing in the future worth saving, Fry realises that Leela would die in the future without him being frozen now.
With the decision now up to Fry, he chooses to freeze himself, and to save Leela. This is how the second shadow appears in Jurassic Bark.
